Fess Up Monday
HALF THE YEAR IS GONE. ARE HALF OF YOUR GOALS MET?
I must admit that I was too busy this weekend to evaluate my goals for the year and month so far. My number one goal–finish The Fire Within–isn’t met yet, but I’ve continued steady progress. The novella is up to 15,421 words and I’m really liking what I have so far. I’m in that phase of “I can’t wait to see what happens next!” Even though I plotted this one out beforehand, enough has changed that I’m really not sure how it’ll all unfold.
Molly asked me the other day how I was going to resolve Zahak and Amin’s dilemma, and I had to admit that I really don’t know. I know in general what happens with the main story arc, but the brother vs. brother theme was a late addition. I’m still not exactly sure who the Keldari villain is. Not as bad as Darius, her brother, but I know *someone* is going to do a Very Bad Thing that leads to the climax of the story. I’ve laid so many red herrings, that I don’t know myself! It’s one of two people (this is a small cast novella, after all), and both are huge blows for Zahak to bear. Ah, I love being vicious to my characters!
Size wise, this novella is feeling longer to me than Survive My Fire, possibly closer to 30K, which I’m all for. I don’t really have a size constraint, so I’ll tell the story how it feels best. However, I have edits coming in the next week or two for SMF, as well as a Gothic antho call I really wanted to write for with a July 31st deadline. With the SMF release this month and promo stuff picking up, this month will be tight and busy! How about you?

Ok, first I am looking forward to Survive My Fire, same release date as Christine D’abo, so it looks like I’ll be buying two books that day. At least it’s during my holidays so I can sit back and read them in my lounge chair.
Busy doesn’t even begin to describe what I’ve been going through. I have some goals met on Journey so I can get that off to Harlequin, I have another story I want to submit to Ellora’s Cave. I am still waiting on my contract through Ellora’s Cave so my summer will be full of edits, setting up websites, get my own promo material done and collecting the promo stuff for my RWA Chapter meeting in September, not to mention the regular meetings and critiques and stuff on top of the EDJ.
And I’m not even going to Nationals!!!! can you hear that scream, that’s me pulling my hair out!
Hope you meet your goals.

Well, they’re not done, but I’m working on it. And things are going better at the dayjob, so I should be able to get back to writing regularly. Have a happy 4th.

Bless your heart, Amy! I hear you. There are so many things I need or want to do, and things are just crazy right now. I’m trying to decide how many nights I could maybe get by on 4 hours of sleep instead of 6.
Thanks, Meryl! I’ll definitely post some of the gothic if I get around to it.
Good for you, Ann! My summer is looking pretty crazy at the EDJ.
Ack, Suzanne! I know! And don’t you have a new book out?? I need to pick it up!! I loved your PAX series.

I was looking at my list of books I’ve read so far this year and was saddened to see I’m off the pace I’ve been on for the past two years.
Other goals? Only to get Trevor’s Song into a publisher’s hands and to yours all the sooner. Can’t say how that’s going, other than frustrating.

I’m plotting… Right, I’ve not told you guys that, have I? But I’m plotting, which means things should start moving faster. I hope.
