Spires of Secrecy
Today’s plan is to finish the first draft. I scanned through the entire document quickly and fixed three loose threads I identified yesterday, adding a whopping 186 words. Now for the real work, finishng the Red Coat scene and moving to the resolution of the story.
Spires of Secrecy, starting at 11,303 words total.
| Section | Title | Words |
|---|---|---|
| misc | tie loose threads | 186 |
| 004 | The Red Coat | 776 |
| 005 | The Key | 751 |
| 006 | Lay the Ghosts to Rest | 528 |
| 007 | Wake Me To Life | 668 |
| Total Words | 2909 |
First draft word count: 14038.
I need a stronger ending, some pithy one-liner or something to come full circle. Not sure what yet. Hopefully inspiration will strike tomorrow while I’m revising. But for now, I’m done! I’m gonna make this deadline!

Oh boy, can I relate! Attempting my very first novel-length romance and it’s scaring the hell out of me. Good luck with the deadline.

“…Dr. Evan Linkyn was inspired by Mr. Rochester….”
Is there a Bertha back at Thornfield too?

Thanks, guys! I’m so pleased I finished!
Sterculian, there was a “Bertha” on Lethe (the alien planet), but she died for real.
Maybe that was her name–I never actually mentioned his wife by name in the story, although his daughter was Lily.
