Taxes
One year H&R Block lost our entire return…
The first year we moved to MO and had MN taxes to file at the same time, I paid an accountant over $250 to file both state returns. The MO return was wrong (despite hiring a MO accountant!!!), and I had to pay penalties…
Another year, the “fast tax” place on the corner filed our child tax credit wrong and I had to pay penalties…
And so I’ve been doing our taxes ever since using TurboTax. I figure I can’t do much worse than these other places. Right? RIGHT?
I always change my mind about midway through and kick myself for not hiring someone else. I persevered, though, and the 2007 taxes are done! E-Filed! And we don’t have to pay! *whew*
My reward: watching Gordon Ramsey puke on Hell’s Kitchen. Priceless.

Congrats on getting them done. I always do my own taxes, it’s no big deal for me, of course I also always use the EZ forms (except the year I moved to VA, then I had to itemize for the moving deduction). This probably won’t change until I get published or buy a house.

I suppose M will get around to doing ours on the 12th. Ugh. He does it with turbotax and files on-line… we know we owe because his W-2 was wrong - AGAIN - he corrected it after last year when we had to pay because it was wrong, but they didn’t change it… which is his fault for not noticing and making sure it was taken care of, and I’m a bit miffed to be honest.

Congratulations! I hate taxes. Blech! But I LOVE TurboTax!!
Got ours done Saturday - it took ALL day, but they’re done, filed, and finished. I hope. The Husband is self-employed, so we have to use Schedule C for his business deductions and whatnot and that always makes me nervous that we’ll get audited… here’s hoping we don’t.

I have always hired someone to do my taxes (even tho my dad was an accountant!!) because I absolutely do not want to deal with them. But all my friends are telling me to try Turbotax next year because it’s a breeze if you have all your tax info at your fingertips. I keep resisting tho. Numbers and I haven’t gotten along since before I could count!!!
Good job tho Joely….and too bad I missed Hell’s Kitchen!!

Here in NZ it is all done by deduction and hardly anyone has to file a tax return. So that is pretty cool. But we pay more income tax than in America I think, but there isn’t any state tax (no states so that makes sense…)
Sales tax is a whopping 12%
OW.
And gas costs almost $7 a gallon.
I’m through whining now.

Isn’t it great to cross the filing/figuring/ taxes off your to-do list for the year?

It was a HUGE load off my mind! I actually filed Schedule C this year and claimed my writing expenses. I had more than I thought.
Suzanne, gulp! $7 a gallon makes our $3 a gallon not so much to complain about. I hope you have a great vacation!
