Emotional Reads

One of the things I want to work on with my writing in 2012 is making sure I involve the emotions.  I want to take you on an emotional rollcoaster!  Wild joy, the depths of loneliness and doubt, and everything in between.

I’ve taken Margie Lawson’s Empowing Characters’ Emotions workshop (I plan to re-read all my notes next year), but I’m looking for highly emotional books you’ve enjoyed that I can add to Mt. TBR.  Some books I’ve heard recommended as “emotional” are Lisa Valdez’s Passion and E.L. James’ Fifty Shades of Grey.  (Whispers, although I’ll admit that I’ve tried to read both in the past and can’t get through the samples.)

When you think of high emotions, what books would you recommend?

  1. I’d like to recommend Morgan’s Run (pub date TBD) but if you’re looking for something on the shelf, PUSH by Sapphire (made into the movie Precious) is AMAZING.

  2. Maya Banks’s Songbird. Also from Maya, Amber Eyes. That one was more emotional for me than for other people but most people need kleenexes for Songbird. Second Chances by Lauren Dane. All of these are fairly quick reads so they won’t add much to Mt. TBR.

  3. One of the most emotional books I’ve ever read is “The Reluctant Dom” by Tymber Dalton. I was reading it at work, crying! Then again, another one is “Dear Sir, I’m Yours”.

  4. I know everyone hyped up Passion, but I wanted to show it against the wall – luckily it was on my kindle and I couldn’t ;)

Tymber Dalton is my go-to emotional author – The Reluctant Dom (mentioned above) and also Acquainted by the Night (but it is m/m/m/m which I know isn’t everyone’s thing)…I was reading it in Chili’s and bawling…i’m sure they thought I was nuts

Non-romancey – more women’s lit – Kristin Hannah hands-down – Firefly Lane towards the end, Summer Island – I don’t know if i’ve finished a book of hers where I haven’t been teary eyed

    FYI – can’t wait for Vicki’s story ;)
