So fast draft hasn’t been so fast.
Usually a personal and difficult challenge does the trick for me, but this time, I just can’t get my motivation in gear. It’s like I’m stuck in neutral. I have a lot on my plate at the Evil Day Job, and still can’t park in the garage because of the stuff I haven’t unpacked. All my brain cells are depleted by the time I get my Word file open. Dark & Early has been a bust — I’m just zonked in the morning.
On the bright side, I have my “twelve rules” figured out for the most part. I need one more “big bang” rule that ties everything together, and a few more characterization details that I hope will come out in fleshing the draft. Even if I can finish a first draft by July 31st, I’m not going to get it edited and polished. I’ll just see what I can do. Worst case, I may have a nice story to give away on the website this Christmas.
sorry it’s not working out, joely. 🙁 i know how you feel. work has been bananas lately and i’m supposed to get an assistant in the next week or two, only there is so much red tape and politics involved, if it happens by xmas i’ll be pleasantly surprised…
anyway, at least you’re getting the bones down, right? i’m guessing this was for a contest? never know – another might come along…
Hang in there, Joely. It’s not over till the Shadowed Blood…belches? Flashes his delectable rear?
One of the two. Maybe both.
Just wanted to say I had a chance to read SMF last night. OMG you had me crying! I thought Jalan was going to save Chanda right up to “I died” and that wasn’t even the end of the book. Awesome! I’ll be scooping up more of your work.
Bethanie, it was for an antho call. 🙁 I took the weekend off and did a lot of cross-stitch — something I haven’t done in ages. I don’t think it’s humanly possible for me to finish and polish this piece in time, but I’ll take a fresh look at it tomorrow morning.
Soleil, you put a smile on my face!!
Sherri, thank you soooo much! I’m thrilled you enjoyed it.
