I like to learn and share about all sorts of techniques and craft elements.  Just remember, there is no ONE way to write!  If anyone tells you they know the “secret” or only way to write a book, then run away as fast as you can.

You must develop your own process, and that process may change from book to book.

So if you’re looking for a little inspiration or a different way to think about plotting, explore these templates and see if a new technique might help.

Brainstorming and Plotting

1.  Basic spreadsheets of the hero’s journey:  2 POVs, more writing space (horizontal, legal sized)  Act 1, Act 2 Part 1, Act 2 Part 2, Act 3

2. Basic spreadsheets of the hero’s journey:  many POVs, less writing space (vertical):  Act 1, Act 2 Part 1, Act 2 Part 2, Act 3

3.  Mind maps of Blake Snyder’s “beats” with basic character development, generated by FreeMind, which I love to use for all sorts of brainstorming.  If you’d like the .mm template, drop me an email (joelysueburkhart AT gmail DOT com).  Pdfs:  Notes only, scenes added.
