Fast Draft Day 001

Up at 5 AM this morning with coffee waiting on me.  I didn’t sleep well — but then I never do before a big push like this.  I made the mistake of thinking about how I was going to start this novella — priming the pump, so to speak — and then I couldn’t get it to shut off.  Plus it stormed last night, and Middle was up late fighting sudden 101 fever after a day of company (I hope she didn’t infect anyone!).  She’s very upset because she has perfect attendance.  🙁

A slow start at first but then I managed to finish the first scene.  It’ll need a lot of work later, of course, but I’m happy with what I got so far.

1,393 words.

First line:

I heard a quetzal calling outside my window again last night.

Exact same way I felt about the scene I did this week. It’s refreshing to know that even the pros go through this. That its natural.

Like your first line! Already we get a hint of the exotic. 😀

  2. I dunno if this is what you intend or not, but that opening line has a rather ominous, portentous feel to it. Sweeeet.

I dunno about being infected, but I’m more stopped up and allergy-ish than I was yesterday. Swelling headache, unable to breathe from my nose, coughing and sneezing, etc. Yuck. No temp, though, which is good.

Heh, watching Phantom of the Opera. AGAIN. Yeah, I know. But I love it!

  3. Love it 😀 Hope the kiddo feels better.

  4. @Gutterball, now that you mention it, I get that feeling to. It feels kind of “The Raven”ish. Eerie.
